Id just like to say that down here in the southern hemisphere we find a lot of these aloes will take quite a bad (brief) frost as long as theyre not sitting in water. Many aloes recover well even after being damaged- we grow them outside without too many worries so if youre coastal and dont get a cracking or soil-freezing frost have a go! Striata is grown outside in southern NZ all year round.

I have four of these plants outside in sandy ground about 250 ft elevation, full sun, 4 miles from the beach in San Diego CA (lat 33N). I transplanted them from a rocky garden nearby and they all bloomed the first year I had them in. Two of them had no root at all when I put them in. So I must say these are very hardy and easy to move. I water these only a few times during the hottest months, nothing the rest of the year. I feed them with liquid plant food once a year.
